On the day Artemis II launched, the RHR crew headed down below the Basement Studio to ask the question fiction keeps digging up, can humans live long-term underground?
Ernie mentioned that the Moon’s volcanic activity is essentially over, making its lava tubes potentially stable for billions of years. Does that make you more or less interested in living in one (you know Nick will be there)?
A bit more, but it is too risky for me. I am too cautious. I wouldn't try to live there but I might visit lol.

Michel Siffre spent months underground alone with no clock and completely lost track of time. How long do you think you’d last before you started to unravel?
Maybe two or three days lol. I get overstimulated easily. Overwhelmed easily too... I'd be like "get me outta here now!!" XD

The crew weighed in choosing from Silo, Fallout, The Expanse, For All Mankind, Kong’s Hollow Earth, The Matrix as fictional underground worlds to live in— which fictional underground world would you like to live in (feel free to pick another)?
None lol. Fallout is too deadly (per ep. 1). I wouod not survive Hollow Earth haha. I have not seen Silo or For All Mankind. Maybe I might visit Mole Man's place, but only if I have Squirrel Girl to protect me lol.
Ernie has a cool background and his job is cool also.
Wow, so this was recorded more recently 😊. Nice 😃
Makes sense it is easier to get them on the ground than underground.
Nick, it is wonderful how your daughter was inspired and intrigued by the Artemis launch 😊.
Awesome description, Joe!
I really enjoyed learning about how lava formed caves. It is neat!
LOL cheese
It is awesome how there was lava on the moon. That is very intriguing.
Yeah, caves can be a good shelter.
I guess Mole Man doesn't need Vitamin D then? (Since he lives underground). I do not know much about him as I just remember him fighting Daredevil once and one time when he fell in love with Squirrel Girl lol. That was an interesting comic.
Yeah, I can see how being in a cave for a long time can mess up someone mentally and emotionally.
Yeah, I can see how underground experiences would be similar to solitary confinement. Good analogy.
Cool to learn how Vitamin D works😊.
I have only seen one episode of Fallout. But ya, going above ground should have more affects.
Oh wow. I didn't know about the eyeless fish or eyeless spiders.
An Amazon, Fallout-like show? Eep lol Too many reality shows.
Good examples of real-life underground facilities.
Batman's Batcave is a good example of a fictional underground bunker lol.
Yes, the Paris Catacombs is another good example. The French With Elle YouTube channel had a great video about the catacombs.
Good point about radiation protection when someone is underground. I didn't think about protection from meteroids but that makes sense.
Good to know that the center of a plate is where it is less likely to have a quake. Makes sense.
Potatoes on Mars hahaha. The Martian. I called it Jason Bourne in space. 😜
Snowpiercer is a great movie 😊.
Six seven. Joe, how could you =P My nephew loves to say that.

Intriguing. Didn't think of modifying organisms, like cynobacteria, to make things.
Skylights got me to think about solar lights and whether a solar flashlight would affect a vampire. Lol my rabbit holes. I had a vampire character who laughed from someone trying to use a solar light against her and knocked him out. Lol
Cool how Ernie trained astronauts!
Haha horror movie in space. Aliens.
Lol ya it is different to live in space. Reminds me of how I learned that in one of the early space missions, there was a floating poop lol (the poop cannot be seen but it was funny)
Ooh I hope we find life in a cave in space 😊
LOL I like Nick's joking question about aliens.
Awesome that you both went to college together, Ernie and Joe 😊
I wonder how Mole Man would do in space.
And now I am on a rabbit hole because this reminds me of how Squirrel Girl went to space and managed to convince Galactus to not eat the Earth haha.
Lol I do not want to live in a cave in Mars or Earth. I wouldn't mind visiting.
Sorry for all the Mole Man and Squirrel Girl tangents. The episode topic reminded me of the Squirrel Girl comic where Mole Man propsed to her lol. And I am a big Squirrel Girl fan lol
Haha Spirit Airlines. 😅
I need to watch For All Mankind.
I need to watch the Expanse also.
I am not sure if I want to visit any underground society, even a fictional one lol. I will need to think about this haha.
Wonderful episode! Excellent discussion. Take care.
